Man, the second week has been really slow- at least for me. The first part of the week was pretty hot and muggy. Hunted some mornings and afternoons, seeing only a few does and yearlings, and those mainly in the afternoons. Mornings have been really slow. Think I hunted at least once everyday except Thursday. Yesterday, Friday, we had hurricane Irene off the coast. Winds were gusting 25-35 mph here- pouring rain at 2:00PM. Looked like a complete bust for sure. Got a break in the rain around 3:30 but the winds continued to howl. Weather channel was calling for tapering rain chances the rest of the day, so I headed to the woods. Figured if I could just get up before it rained again I’d be ok ( had my trusty umbrella ). Thought the deer might actually move after this mess cleared out. Well, the rain did hold off but the wind was relentless. Thought I would be seasick for a while- tree was swaying as much as five feet in all directions! All this for two does and a year and a half old 5-pt. I’m crazy! Got up this morning to go again but it was raining. Crawled back in bed. May or may not go this afternoon. One bright spot this week came when Jeff Burleson, writer for Soth Carolina Sportsman, called and wanted to write an article about the 10-pointer I killed last Wednesday. You can find it on their website- www.SCSportsman.com
