Had an opportunity to hunt this morning with Boodie Walters at his place on Black River. He’s done a great job developing his 1500 acres for deer and turkeys. We saw at least 5 gobblers this morning along with a couple of jakes and hens. We got on a couple of gobblers with one hen. Boodie insisted that I shoot and I took a nice double-bearded gobbler. I actually could have killed both the gobblers with one shot. I had to wait for them to separate to avoid doing just that. Pictures in the “Thunder Chicken” gallery. Thanks, Boodie, for a great hunt. Man, I had a great turkey hunting experience yesterday morning. And, I was just along to video. I had mentioned to David Walters earlier during the week that I was interested in getting a kill on video for the website. He invited me to film a hunt with his young son, Hunter, on Saturday morning. I met David and his dad, Boodie, over at their place on Black River around 6:00AM. When they got out of the truck I asked where our shooter was ( David had told me Hunter would be shooting ). Hunter was asleep in the truck. Boodie dropped us off several hundred yards from a chufa patch that David had previously seen some nice gobblers. There wasn’t a whole lot of cover around but David had made a makeshift blind that all three of us could hide in. It was chilly ( about 40 degrees ) and an absolutely beautiful morning. The turkeys did exactly what David said they would do and Hunter sat there like a pro as they came in ( he’s maybe 8 yrs old ). Well, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words and, if that’s true, a video is worth ten thousand words! I’ll let you decide by going to the “Thunder Chickens” video gallery and seeing for yourself. Later…

Bagged a nice gobbler yesterday morning. You’ll find a photo, and the story, in the “Thunder Chicken” photo gallery. Not sure how much time I’ll have to hunt this season because the new job ( County Magistrate ) is really hamstringing me. I’m only supposed to be working a day and a half per week but I’m actually working closer to three days a week- partly because we are so far behind and partly beacuse I’m still learning and experience is the best teacher. My goal now is to get a kill on video, mine or somebody else’s. If you’re a turkey hunting fanatic I wish you success in your season. Stay tuned. Later…

Turkey season just a couple of days away. Hope you’re more prepared than I am. I’ve hardly scouted at all. Just a lot of stuff going on but I’ll probaly be after one Monday morning. Hope to get a little video for the site this season. Will keep you posted on my progress. I am continuing with my Hi-pro feeding and am starting to see some nubs on some bucks. I plan to track one particular buck as his horns develope. This buck has a very distinct mark on his left side. Looks like some kind of scar about 6-8 inches right behind his shoulder. Should make him easy to identify. I plan to create a new 2012 trail cam photo gallery and post pictures of this buck as he developes. Should be interesting. Later…
