About a week ago, September 21st, I got my first shot of the season on a morning hunt. Problem is I didn’t close the deal. Tried to put the shot right in the buck’s wheelhouse but ended up shooting him low, right behind the heart. Trailed him to where he layed down in a fire lane about 100 yds away. That’s where the blood trail ran out. Man, I’m sick over it! You can watch the video in the video gallery- Deer 2012. Later…

Wow! Somebody please tell me what’s going on-bucks chasing does already. I’ve never witnessed what I’m seeing right now, at least not now. For the past week I’ve seen big bucks chasing does, not just bumping them around. I’m talking some serious grunting and chasing. Some other hunters have related similar stories to me. Last Thursday and this past Monday I missed getting shots at shooter bucks because they wouldn’t come in and stay before leaving to chase does. Well, actually the one Monday stayed long enough but just didn’t give me an opportunity to stand for the shot. I’m in the process of editing some of the video of these bucks and hope to have something on the website by Sunday night. Check it out. Later…

Well, bow season has been open for almost two weeks. This week has been tough because of all the rain but I’m still getting plenty of trail cam photos- some good bucks during daylight hours too! However, no shot so far. Had a shooter come in one morning just before shooting light. Stayed fifteen minutes and walked away about five minutes before I could have videoed him. That’s happened to me before. A couple of years ago a good buck kept coming in just like that, but he would stay a little longer each time. Yes, I finally got him. Had a great sit this past Saturday, the 25th. Had a good buck come out about 7:45 . He just wasn’t one of the shooters I’d been seeing on trail cam. I decided to let him walk. You can see it in the Video Gallery under “Deer-2012”. Later…

Well, the season’s been open now for 5 days. I’ve been 2-3 times so far but haven’t seen anything worth shooting. I’ve got one big 5-pt cull that should be shot but it’s been just too hot to mess with him. Weather the last few days has been somewhat unsettled, a fair amount of rain scattered across the area. Looking for some high pressure with less humidity. Later…
