Williamsburg Bow Hunter

Hard to believe turkey season has been over for two weeks now. I really had a great second half of the season- ended up taking four good birds and got my first with a bow. Couldn’t ask for much more than that. Time now to look forward to deer season. And, it will be here before yopu know it. I’ve got a couple of high protein feeders going and I’m starting to get pics of some horned bucks. It’s always interesting to follow the antler development over the summer. I haven’t set up a 2013 Trail Cam photo gallery yet but will do so shortly. I’ll start posting some pics in the next couple of weeks. Later…

Wow! What a difference the second half of the season has been. I only have one tag left for this season. Killed my first gobbler with a bow yesterday, and I got it on video. I’ve been trying to accomplish this for three years and it’s not an easy feat. I’ve hit several but never recovered one, that is until yesterday. I went with a friend this morning and he took a very nice gobbler- 12″ beard. He and I have hunted a number of times together this season and each of us has killed one while hunting together. Fast forward a couple of more days. Got #3 this morning, a pretty good bird- 18.5 lbs with a 10″ beard. Started not to go because of the turbulent front coming through last night. I figured I’d get up anyway and see how it looked. Woke up and checked the radar on my iphone. Looked like we were right on the edge of the rain so I decided to go ahead. Good choice!! Heard this bird gobble a few times but he wasn’t coming my way. I decided to make a move and try to get ahead of him. When I finally caught up with him he was just across a road and he looked like he was alone. I quickly sat down by the edge of this small field on my side of the road and only had to call once. He came on a string and I didn’t have a chance to get my video camera set up. You can’t beat good luck!! Picture in the photo gallery. Later…

Fast forward a couple of days. Got another good bird yesterday. Hunting has been a mixed bag with good gobbling some days and little on others. Yesterday’s kill was one of those days with little gobbling. Had two big gobblers come in but only a couple of gobbles on the roost and a couple on the ground. Got some great video of the hunt.
