I don’t know about you but my hunting has been slow, especially since the flood. We have never really recovered from all the high water. Every time we get a rain now everything gets messy again. Don’t think that will change for the rest of this season. I did kill a couple of does over Thanksgiving and I’m still getting some pictures of shooter bucks but mainly at night. I’m heading back to Kentucky this week for a change of scenery. The weather is going to be unseasonably warm but at least it will be drier. Stay tuned for an update when I return. Later…

Got back a couple of days ago from a week at Riverbend Whitetails in Kentucky. Had a great week of hunting, especially considering the bad weather we had. It rained three of the five days and was pretty windy every day. Five of us went and four got shots at good bucks. Three of the four were recovered. I was the only one that didn’t shoot a buck. I had to settle for a couple of “big mamas”. I did have a close encounter with a trophy buck. Check him out in the video gallery. I can’t wait to get back there next year. Looks like hunting around here is going to be tough for awhile with the effects of all the rain we had. Later…

Hunting season in our area will not be the same for awhile- an unbelievable amount of rain fell on us last weekend, 24+ inches. Major flooding resulted throughout eastern SC. Most rivers reached all time highs, pushing the deer out to any dry ground they could find. DNR closed hunting temporarily in several river plains but not nearly enough in my opinion. I think it opens back up at midnight tonight, all too soon I think. I’ve got a number of stands still too wet to reach. I doubt we get completely back to normal by year’s end. Later…

Man, what a great season this has been so far, at least for me. Three really good bucks, two of which are already at the taxidermist. The crazy thing about it is that the biggest deer, 207 lbs, is not at the taxidermist- a 9pt that will have to settle for a European mount. All of this and we’re not even half way through the season. Makes me more concerned than ever about the proposed deer bill now in the legislature. If it passes in its present form, one more buck and my season would be over for the most part. Well that’s a topic for future discussion. Suffice it to say, this season has been great for me and if I don’t kill another buck it will still be a great season for me. Hope you’re getting into the woods as often as possible. I know I am! Later…
